A plan in SimpliRoute is the main organizational unit for your deliveries. It groups together the routes, vehicles, and drivers for a specific day or dispatch shift.
Efficient route planning is a key element for optimizing logistics operations and improving the productivity of any organization.
With SimpliRoute 🚀 you can assign resources intelligently, taking into account different variables such as availability, capacities, and operational constraints. The system automatically generates optimized routes, reducing travel times, costs, and potential issues during execution.
The first thing you need to know is that to access the Router section, you must have a Router or Administrator role. If you have one of these roles, you will find the Routes Module in the options bar on the left side of your screen.
In the Router section, you will see a list of your existing plans (if any) and the Create new plan button, which you will click to start a new route planning process.
Creating a plan consists of 3 steps or tabs, which we will detail below.
Step 1 – Vehicles 🚚
First, you need to configure the basic parameters of the plan:
Plan name: You can change the default name to one of your preference.
Plan date: The day on which the deliveries will be executed.
Start time: The time when vehicles begin operating their routes.
End time: The maximum time allowed to complete all deliveries of the day.
💡 The time window directly affects optimization. If you set a very short window, some visits may remain unassigned due to lack of time.
Once you have selected the date and times, the system will display the vehicles available in your account for that schedule. For each vehicle, you can view basic information such as load capacity, load type, assigned driver, etc.
You will also have a filter and search bar to make selection easier. If you use fleets, you will see a fleet selection option next to the search bar.
After defining all the necessary parameters, the buttons to proceed to Step 2 – Visits 📍 will be enabled. You can continue using the Visits button at the top or the Continue button at the bottom of the screen.
Step 2 – Visits 📍
Once the basic parameters are set, the next step is to add the delivery addresses or visits. You have several options to import your orders depending on your operation.
You can add visits in the following ways:
Manual: Add visits individually by filling out the required fields in the form.
From Excel: Import a bulk list with addresses, loads, time windows, and contact information from an Excel template. You can download an example template using the Download example option and use it as a reference.
Note: The option "Skip mapping if the file is standard" allows the system to proceed without column mapping. Make sure your file is correctly formatted before uploading.
From integration: If your ERP or e-commerce is connected, visits are imported automatically. Find them using the scheduling date defined by your system when sending them to SimpliRoute.
Uncompleted visits: Recover failed, pending, or partial deliveries from previous plans and include them in this new planning.
Once the visits are added, they will appear sorted in the list. At the top, you will see any alerts related to addresses, if applicable.
In this step, you can edit or delete visits as needed. You can also select multiple visits at once to perform bulk actions more efficiently.
Once all your visits are loaded, you can proceed to Step 3 – Routes 🗺️. Select your preferred optimizers (if you’re not familiar with them, we recommend reading our article on Optimization Options), and then click Create routes.
💡 You can also skip optimization and go directly to the Routes tab located above the Create routes button.
Step 3 – Routes 🗺️
After optimization is complete, you will see the created routes on the left side, based on your vehicle selection, time parameters, and chosen optimizers. You will also see any visits that remained unassigned (outside of routes).
In this step, you can modify the optimization results, create new routes, move visits between routes, add out-of-route visits, change vehicles, assign drivers, and make other adjustments.
💡 For more information, see the section at the end of this article about the actions available when editing Step 3.
Once you have reviewed your routes, click Finish to save the plan.
You will then see a plan summary window where you can:
Change drivers
Add comments to routes
Export a summary file
Change the plan name
Finally, click Confirm to save your plan.
Step 3 – Routes (Modify Optimization Result) 📝
In this section, you will find some of the modifications you can make while editing Step 3.
